Billingham use the natural characteristics of canvas, together with the knowledge of how to cut and stitch it, to provide the bag's stiffening and shape. The canvas is made waterproof by a so called Storm Block layer between two layers of cotton. All Billingham bags are finished with top quality leather and quality brass is used for the buckles and zippers.

Billingham bags are different - not just for the sake of appearance, but as a result of the careful consideration given to the bag's function and performance. For example, the bags are deeper than most, all products are made to withstand the rigours of traditional English weather. This means that the canvas is waterproof, the lining is non-absorbent, and the seams are bound with waterproof tape. All overlapping seams are tiled, sewing needle sizes are kept as small as possible, and just to be sure that the holes they make won't let water in, threads are used that contains cotton: this swells when it gets wet, effectively sealing the hole.
